We brew ‘Real Ale’ – a beer type largely unique to the United Kingdom. The defining feature of ‘Real Ale’ is that the beer itself has not undergone filtering or pasteurisation meaning it contains live yeast when served from the cask. The live yeast provides a secondary fermentation in the cask (the first having occurred in the fermenting vessel in the brewery) giving the beer its unique and complex flavour and condition.
We love experimenting and trying new things so we are brewing a variety of different beers, alongside one-off’s, specials and seasonal beers.
Our core selection of beers covers the width of the spectrum in terms of style, flavour and alcohol level.
Cuckoo – 3.8% ABV
The classic traditional British Bitter, perfectly balanced between malt and four varieties of English hops. Deceptively tasty for the ABV.
Narrow Gauge – 3.9% ABV
Brewed with 100% Pale Malt this golden ale delivers a strong citrus finish and long dry bitter aftertaste thanks to the liberal use of the First Gold and Citra hops.
Restoration Ale – 4.6% ABV
A mid brown beer with similarities to a traditional best bitter but enhanced by the generous use of American hops delivering a fruity refreshing beer. £1 from each cask sold goes towards the All Saints Preservation Trust (charity no: 1077207) looking after the town’s iconic church – the finest in Bedfordshire according the John Betjeman.
Black Buzzard – 5.8% ABV
A crazy marriage of six different malts delivers a wonderful, complex, robust porter with hints of coffee and chocolate.
We also brew a wide range of beers throughout the year which expand on our core beers to provide a varied selection to our customers. Some of our current seasonal offerings are below.
Gazza’s Tears – 3.8% ABV
Brewed especially for the World Cup 2018, this is a light and easy drinking golden ale with hints of underlying bitterness and hops. Perfect for an afternoon watching the football or a barbecue.
Bedfordshire Best – 4.1% ABV
Bedfordshire Best is a 4.1% ABV best bitter brewed with Marris Otter Pale Malt and 3 different English hops. It was first brewed at the request of the Friends of Bedfordshire Society to celebrate the first ever ‘Bedfordshire Day’ on the 28 November 2015 and will be brewed for each Bedfordshire Day going forward. In fact this beer has proven so popular that we sometimes brew it at other times of the year!
Train Robber – 5.0% ABV
Brewed with Extra Pale Marris Otter malt and plenty of hops – Ahtanum, Amarillo and Cascade from America and Green Bullet and Nelson Sauvin from New Zealand – this is a proper IPA; high ABV, pale and hoppy!
The Cloud Series
Sometimes its fun to just play around with ingredients to create something new. Our cloud series beers are just that. Jon getting to experiment with different hops and malts in combinations not used in our usual beers. These beers are always limited quantity so if one comes up and peaks your interest hurry on over. To date all the cloud beers have been proven great successes and sell out quick.
All our beers contain Malted Barley and Gluten.
Since launching in 2014, we have brewed a number of special and seasonal beers which we may well brew again. You can find out more here.
